The works in the ‘amour’ series are attempts to represent the feeling of love. The two faces were moulded and reproduced in plaster from a statue of Antinous (2nd century AD), a young man known as the favourite and lover of the Roman emperor Hadrian. Divinised by Hadrian, Antinous is depicted in a large number of works of art, making him one of the most famous faces of Antiquity. The union of the two faces creates a floral composition, colourful and motionless, giving the impression of eternal blossoming.
