La Vénus de Milo est une célèbre statue en marbre représentant la déesse grecque de l’amour Aphrodite retrouvée dans l’île grecque de Milos en avril 1820, sans ses bras. C’est une œuvre originale de l’époque hellénistique, créée vers 150-130 av. J.-C. Son exposition au musée du Louvre en 1821 a fait sensation. L’œuvre originale, entourée de mystère, est ici partiellement reproduite en plâtre et placée dans un véritable nid d’oiseau éclairé par un néon, dans un dispositif rappelant le diorama. Avec « The beginning of temporality », Léo Fourdrinier imagine les origines de la Vénus, à son éclosion, où la forme du néon évoque son premier battement de cœur.
The Venus de Milo is a famous marble statue of the Greek goddess of love Aphrodite, found on the Greek island of Milos in April 1820, without her arms. It is an original work from the Hellenistic period, created around 150-130 BC. Its exhibition at the Louvre in 1821 caused a sensation. The original work, shrouded in mystery, is here partially reproduced in plaster and placed in a real bird’s nest lit by neon, in a set-up reminiscent of a diorama. In “The beginning of temporality”, Léo Fourdrinier imagines the origins of the Venus, when it first hatched, and the shape of the neon light evokes its first heartbeat.
